Florence Nightingale (founder of modern, professional nursing) recognized in her lifetime the importance of hygiene in fighting the spread of infection. As a result of this she introduced a daily "patient bathing procedure", which remained virtually unchanged for over 150 years.
In 1994, nurse Susan M. Skewes, RN, developed a theory-based alternative method to a bed bath and this was the beginning of what we know today as BagBath®.
BagBath® is the professional product for your personal care that has been developed for an effective but gentle cleansing and care of the face and body.
BagBath® contains no soap, alcohol, perfume or parabens.
BagBath® makes it possible to wash the body without using water, soap, washcloths and towels. With BagBath® combines it all in one cloth and using just one packet a bed bath can be given.
It is a good tool in situations where there is either no bath available or it is not possible to get to the bath.
BagBath makes a difference
The skin is the body's largest organ and has multiple layers. The layer acts as a vital barrier and keeps a wide range of harmful substances and bacteria and allergens out.
Most soaps affect the skin's pH level, which for adults is normally in the range of 4.5 - 5.5. Soap can leave harmful residues on the skin that can cause drying or degradation. Dry skin cracks easily, and thus the aforementioned foreign bodies have easier access to the organism, often leading to infection or eczema.
The skin's mild acidity is an effective antimicrobial barrier. Therefore, it uses a strong acid mantle which helps protect the skin.
BagBath® preserves and protects the natural acid mantle and contains no soap, perfume or alcohol, and in fact, contains relatively few ingredients, but these ingredients help restore the skin.
Sensitive skin

BagBath® contains vitamin E and vitamin B5 which acts as a softener and humectant, which keeps moisture in the skin, which in turn eliminates the need for extra lotion.
F68*, an FDA-approved surfactant, is used to reduce the surface tension of water in order to be able to cleanse the skin gently. F68 is a known skin and wound cleanser.
BagBath® has been dermatologically tested at an institute in Brazil (test report can be obtained).
How to use BagBath® ?
The BagBath® system consists of a re-sealable bag with 8 thick and good quality cleansing wipes, which contains skin-friendly ingredients.
The 8 wipes are meant for 8 body parts - one wipe for each part.
The bag can be heated in a microwave for about 45 sec. (don't overheat), and is now ready for use. If the patient isn't immediately ready for the bed bath it can be held warm under the pillow or in a blanket.
When BagBath® is heated it gives the patient the feeling of a hot shower.
The patient is washed according to the guideline on the bag - as seen on the illustration.
After using a wipe it can be thrown away, making a bed bath with BagBath® both hygienic and easy.
BagBath® is both a time- and money saver, without compromising the quality. To avoid cross-contamination one bag is meant for one patient/user.
Where is BagBath® used?
BagBath® is used on hospitals as an alternative to the ordinary bed bath for immobile patients. BagBath is likewise used by the primary sector in nursing homes and with/by private individuals.
- On hospitals BagBath® is used in the Intensive Care Units with the very ill and/or immobile patients. It is also used with patients who require extra caution with tubed and drains.
- Used with patients suffering from Pulmonary Disease, who isn't able of performing physical activity.
- Used to clean the skin around a wound of an ostomy or on especially sensitive skin.
